Dive into our brand ethos — why made in Hong Kong matters to us

A glimpse of SS26.
Why made in Hong Kong?
Many people ask why we insist on producing in Hong Kong. It’s a fair question. Hong Kong is known as one of the most expensive cities in the world, with soaring rent and property costs that inevitably drive up production expenses. From a purely commercial perspective, manufacturing elsewhere would seem like the obvious choice.
But for us, momotone has never been built on convenience alone.

Hands that shaped Hong Kong.
Close to our makers.
Hong Kong was once a thriving manufacturing hub. In its golden era, craftsmanship and small factories formed the backbone of the city’s identity. Today, as property development and the financial market dominate the narrative, manufacturing has gradually faded from view. When people talk about Hong Kong, conversations often revolve around money, investment, and real estate. Yet we believe Hong Kong’s value extends far beyond economics. There are communal, cultural, and human values that deserve to be preserved.

Made with care.
Rare. Thoughful. Intentional.
By continuing to produce locally, we support the people who helped shape Hong Kong’s roots. Many of the skilled sewers we work with are in their 50s and above. Their experience is not something that can be easily replaced or replicated. Their craftsmanship reflects decades of knowledge, patience, and pride in their work. Supporting them means supporting a living piece of Hong Kong’s heritage.

This is momotone.
Producing locally also allows us to maintain close relationships with our manufacturing partners and ensures tighter quality control. In a time when locally made products are increasingly rare, we believe there is something worth celebrating in being able to say that our pieces are made in Hong Kong. We are proud to collaborate with professional local factories that share our dedication to precision and care.

A story rooted in memory.
On a more personal level, this commitment is deeply rooted in my own childhood memories. I remember my mother carrying me on her back while she worked tirelessly at the sewing machine. The rhythmic sound of stitching filled my days, and even now, hearing that familiar hum brings a sense of comfort and satisfaction. Those early moments shaped my appreciation for craftsmanship and the quiet dedication behind every sewn piece.

People. Pets. Craftsmanship.
We won’t pretend it’s easy. Maintaining production in Hong Kong comes with constant challenges — rising costs, limited resources, and an uncertain future. There are times when the path forward feels unclear. Still, we continue to work hard to keep this commitment alive, for as long as we possibly can.
Recently, Moshi Moshi even visited one of the local factories we work with. Watching the careful hands behind each stitch, it reminded us again why we choose to stay close to our makers. These quiet moments — between people, pets, and craftsmanship — reflect what momotone truly stands for.

More than a label. A belief.
For us, “Made in Hong Kong” is not just a label. It is a belief in craftsmanship, in community, and in preserving something meaningful for the future.
